I had the special honor of photographing Leezeyda's maternity portraits earlier this spring. After Lee suddenly lost her beloved husband Jeff when she was only 12 weeks pregnant, she's had a hard time appreciating the beauty of her pregnancy. She was encouraged by family and friends to take some portraits and celebrate her pregnancy and I'm so glad she did. I was in awe of her throughout the session- I can't imagine how incredibly difficult it has been to be excited about the precious new life she's growing while also mourning the loss of the love of her life.
When we were talking about things to incorporate in the session, Leezeyda said that she kept seeing little white feathers and thought of them as signs from Jeff. So I had Mel at The Wild Florette make a beautiful flower crown incorporating the feathers and Leezeyda looked so beautiful wearing it! We also included Jeff's boots and his shirt but we didn't need these things to feel his presence. He was there in the clouds that kept the lighting beautifully even, he was there in the music playing on the radio that morning ("Picture Perfect"), he was there in the cool breeze, and he was there in Leezeyda's heart as she was able to relax, smile, and enjoy the session.
Baby Donnelly should be here any day now and I can't wait for him to meet his mom, she's pretty amazing.
