Favorite Free Family Photo Locations in Austin, Part 1

As Austinites, we're lucky to live in a beautiful city. You can find a photo-worthy spot around every corner but for some reason, when it's time to tell your photographer where you'd like to have your family pictures taken, you draw a blank! I totally get it and I thought I'd share a few ideas here so its easier for you next time. Many locations require a fee to hold professional photography sessions on site but the ones I've listed here are free!   There are many, many more locations for photos and I'll be sharing more in the future. Do you have a favorite to add to the list or somewhere you've always wanted to see pictures taken?

1. The Long Center

You can't beat the view of the skyline behind you! Pro tip: morning hours are best for lighting, especially if you can catch sunrise over downtown!

2. Brushy Creek Lake Park

A lot of my clients and I live in Cedar Park and this beautiful park is right in our backyard! Pro tip: Can't beat the easy parking and gorgeous light at sunset.

3. Bull Creek Greenbelt

There are multiple access points to the greenbelt all along the west side of the city. Tucked next to busy roads, the greenbelt can be a surprising oasis. Pro tip: make sure you and your photographer check out your favorite spots on the greenbelt before your session as changing water levels can really change the look and feel of different spots. Also, make sure you wear shoes that are suitable for walking over rocky terrain. Sometimes the best spots are just a little hike away.

4. Austin Central Library

The awesome architectural features and easy underground parking make this location a favorite. Especially since its an indoor location which means we can be flexible with scheduling around weather and nap times without worrying about perfect lighting conditions outside. Pro tip: photographers are required to get permits before having a session here so make sure you plan in advance.
